Macc fielded three teams in yesterday's national Fell Running relays, an open team, vet 40 team, and a third team made up of those 'wishing to see a bit more of the scenery at a gentler pace'.The competition pits the best clubs in the UK against one another over 4 legs, all of which include some very steep climbs and descents.Â
The relays were held on Shropshire's Long Mynd, one of the best places around for fell running, (but definitely not flat !) and start / finish of each leg was in the town of Church Stretton. Â Weather for the day was just about perfect, with a sharp frost quickly melting to give a bright and sunny day. As each runner only runs one leg, there was plenty of time for socialising in the sun and catching up with old friends !
The open team -Â Tom Wild/Andy Lamont/Matthew Bigley/Steve Watts/Ian Mills/Rick Houghton - finished tenth open team and thirteenth overall, a superb performance given the quality of the competition.
The Vet 40 team -Â James Noakes/Mike Nelson/Ian Hughes/Digby Harris/Julian Brown/John Mooney - finished 13th in the vet 40 category and 57th overall.
Our third team -Â Philip Barnes/Joanna Miles/Trevor Longman/Larry Day/Neil Clarke/Dave Tucker - finished 118th overall.Â
These are certainly the highest placings the club has managed for many years, and congratulations are due to all those who ran and enjoyed a grand day out supporting their club !
